I’m not sure why pierogis don’t come to mind when I think of special Valentine’s meals but maybe because they aren’t as pretty as some other things that might be, say, romantic. But Oh My God were they delicious! My sister dropped these off at my office. Four unidentified dumplings. You know, I don’t know, we didn’t have these as kids, not being Polish, so I didn’t really know how to handle them so much. I pan fried them and ate them with sour cream, horseradish and grainy mustard. They were exquisite if not, as I said, so pretty. I suppose I could have put a sprig of parsley on the plate but I was eating alone, it being Valentine’s Day and all, and who the hell cares.
It was all going well until I hit the dessert pierogi. Like I said, what do I know from pierogis? I can pretty much eat mustard and horseradish on anything and I might even like it on cheesecake but I’d need to be prepared for that.
