The hardest part of this was peeling all the damn little apples and taking out the center thing. I do not have a melon baller which is what you’re supposed to use. I have every other kitchen utensil known to mankind in my batterie de cuisine but not a damn melon baller.
This was an upside down apple and walnut cake that I served with soft whipped cream and it was truly delicious. You make it right in the pan you brown the apples in. Funny thing about pan handles. They don’t look hot even when they’ve been in the oven for an hour (muffled scream).
