A trip to the local crazy farmer brought me some not-that-great tomatoes and some scarred but good cucumbers. I’m not sure what his later tomatoes will be but I’m guessing the summer drought will have affected them adversely. By now we should be well into great-tomato season. It’s just not here. These tomatoes are not quite ripe, have green shoulders (a result of uneven moisture) and are beginning to rot at the same time. Their texture was odd and the flavor, while better than the run-of-the-mill supermarket variety, was no summer-grown-in-your-garden tomato. But, well, they are tomatoes and I love them, nonetheless.
