Canning tomatoes

I swore I would never do this again because despite the fact that they are picked ripe and canned in my kitchen, they taste just like, well, canned tomatoes. Ones you can buy without making a huge mess. The thing is that the store-bought canned tomatoes have calcium chloride in them to prevent them from breaking down. And I like a tomato to break down. Particularly if I’m going to make sauce with them. The other thing is that all cans have plastic inside them. I know it’s a losing battle. There is plastic everywhere. But, hey, I can try.

This, what-seemed-like-oceans of tomatoes, yielded only the 3 pints. I’m gonna stop over to the farmer again this weekend and buy more. More work, more mess, more fussing. I just can’t help myself.
