The thing I loved about mom and food, was her enjoyment of the most simple foods. Peanut butter toast with a glass of milk. She made the best lettuce salad on earth. Maybe it was just that I didn’t have to make it. But one of my favorite last memories of her and food was in her last few years when I brought a grapefruit to feed Damien in the morning (because had mostly inedible food on hand by that point). Late in the eve she went into the kitchen and emerged with half of the grapefruit in a bowl, sectioned with her grapefruit spoon. So pleased. As she walked past me she said, “Would you like the other half?” I still smile when I think about it.
No wonder your sisters are so beautiful!

I brought her a tangerine almost every day and every day she asked if they were tangelos. Did we even ever have tangelos?
