I had this brilliant idea to put Froot Loops into the batter for my niece’s third birthday cake, have her decorate the exterior of the cake with them, and then be surprised by the bright matching colors inside.
Where I went wrong was expecting a 3 year old to understand any of this idea. She was quite happy to decorate the cake particularly when she got the frosting on her fingers that she could lick off and also when it came to adding the sprinkles. The sprinkles got a little out of hand and it wasn’t exactly as tastefully decorated as I would have preferred.
It turns out that Froot Loops, rather than incorporating themselves into the baking cake, contract into hard little nubbins that are no longer brightly colored nor pleasant to eat. Not that it mattered to my niece. She only ate the frosting.
